Georgia Weston is a ceramic artist based in the Yorkshire Dales, balancing her own making with teaching and community engagement.
Georgia throws and assembles terracotta vessels in the Yorkshire Dales, inspired by the landscape around her. Drawing on the unkempt terrain and the whistle of wind through crags on the moors, Georgia brings the wild outdoors in. Each piece is decorated with local clay slip, while brushstrokes of porcelain and oxides bring out brighter colours. Using her huge range of slip recipes, Georgia paints the landscape in ceramic, capturing the bright green of wild garlic and the soft blue of a (rare) cloudless sky.
Meeting makers and learning from ceramicists all over the world inspires her practice. Georgia's making focuses on the audience's interaction with the finished piece. Utalising a range of ceramic techniques she is constantly learning from the masters. Having thrown pots in Mashiko, Japan, decorated tableware in factories in Indonesia and worked with masters of the craft, Shelly Simpson, Duncan Hooson and Simeon Featherstone.
The latest collection, Earth Tones, is a series that plays with ceramics and sound. Inspired by the Yorkshire moors, Georgia has created a series of vessels that amplifies the tunes played beneath them. She throws on the wheel and assembles the pieces, using large brushstrokes and a dash of lustre to finish the work. I hope to invoke wonder and curiosity in the audience.
I use clay as a tool for creativity, communication and positive social change.
2026 Collection
Terracotta / Porcelain Slip / Lustres
A series designed and created around the Yorkshire Dales and my experience with land and materials. Each piece combines traditional hand-building with throwing on the wheel, decorated with porcelain, lustres and local clay.
Designed to enhance your music, these pieces don't have a base. The sculpture can sit on top of a speaker and amplify the tunes played beneath.
Selected ceramic work exhibited at Affordable Art Fair as part of Ceramics Unbound, curated by Caroline Jackman.
